About the Event
Travel back to the 1860s and experience Alder Gulch history brought to life through engaging presentations and demonstrations across Virginia City. At 10:30 AM on the Hangman’s Building Deck, hear the story of the men who made the first gold discovery at Alder Gulch, sparking one of Montana’s greatest gold rushes. Return at 11:30 AM for “Trail to Alder Gulch,” a look at the paths fortune-seekers traveled to reach the gulch. At the Train Depot at 12:30 PM, get an up-close look at 19th-century firearms during the Historic Gun Presentation. Back at the Hangman’s Building Deck at 1:30 PM, learn about the vital role Alder Gulch’s post offices played in connecting miners with the outside world. Then, at 2:30 PM in the Yarrow Gallery, explore the fashions of mining towns and see what settlers, miners, and townswomen wore in the 1860s.
